| You most likely do not have a third virtual disk configured on SCSI address 1:0. Double check that you have added a virtual disk for data storage that is between 5GB and 2047GB and that it is using SCSI address 1:0.

Hi all,
I have the same problem at one of my customers. We performed the installation following the installation guide and we also created the 1:0 scsi disk. When starting the CMC we get this error:
"Failed to get the disk report. An invalid XML character (Unicode 0xf) was found in the element content of the document"
After that this error: "Setting the RAID configuration failed because network connection was closed".
Can it be that we did something else wrong? The guide specifies the following dir to install the VSA: /vmfs/volumes/storage1. Does it matter if we use a different dir?
Thanks in advance!

| No problem putting in in a different path so long as it is a valid VMFS datastore. That error does not look familiar but it typically is somethine to do with misconfiguration of the data disk. Just check some other items please... You did use the LSI controller (not buslogic)? What size is the vmdk?

Hi Adam,
Yes, we used the LSI controller. All the other setting are standard, like the VMDK file size. One thing is strange (maybe): after installation the VSA has two virtual disks already. One of them is using the 0:1 SCSI address.
The manual states that the 0:1 disk should be created after the installation....?? If that is so, then I need to change the address of one of the two pre-installed disks before I can use that address.....

You should not remove 0:1. I'll double check what the manual says. But here is some info on what the disks are and what they do...
0:0 = the first OS disk - don't touch this
0:1 = the second OS disk - don't touch this either
1:0 = the data disk - you can make this whatever size you want from 5GB to 2047GB
Replacing the data disk (1:0) with whatever you want is fine.
The first two (0:0 and 0:1) are mirrored OS disks, the mirror is not for redundancy, it is for upgrades.
If you replaced 0:1 with a data disk then that would be your problem, the OS would still boot but you will not be able to upgrade that VSA in the future and raid will not configure correctly.
