If i want to powerdown my esx server what is the best approach to power down a VSA prior to shutting down the vsa?

If it is a node in a redundant cluster then you can power it down by "shutdown server" in VC or power it down from the SAN/iQ UI.
Since there are other nodes around to failover too the ESX server itself won't care.

If it is a single ESX server and single VSA then the ESX server does not like seeing its storage disappear and will hang for a while on shutdown. In this case just don't shutdown the VSA, let it just go down with ESX.
