I installed the VSA in a folder called VSA in the only esx storage directory called Storage. Is this good? The training course for VSA in ISAN University mentioned a separate storage group. I left 75GB for esx general storage and assigned the remaining 750GB for the VSA.

That is fine. It is very typical that a VSA be placed on the default local storage datastore, usually named storage1.
The caution is that we don't want other VMs running locally on that same datastore because they would cause disk contention with the VSA.
