| I have had a single VSA setup for some time now and it has been working fine. Today when I was setting up a new VSA to do some testing I accidentally reverted to a previous snapshot while I was setting up the new system. I didn’t get a change to create a Virtual Manager before this happen so I can’t reestablish the quorum and get the data back from the pre-existing VSA. I have been working with the real Lefthand Networks storage boxes for about 3 years now and last time this type of thing happened, we had to have a Lefthand system engineer onsite to remove the bad host from the storage cluster. I would hope that that there is a way to do it now without that type of involvement. I can’t remove the bad manager because it wants the quorum to be up first and I can’t start the quorum because there is only one manager. Please help.

There is a script available that can recover quorum in most situations like this. If you are a LeftHand customer, you can open a case with support and we will work with you to recover quorum. If you are not currently a customer, let me know and I will see if I can get you the script.
Thanks,

Additionally you should never use VMware snapshots on a VSA.
There are two places in the manual that this is called out.
One is in the requirements section, this is also in the listing on the VMware compatibility guide, which states
"All virtual disks for the VSA must be configured as
independent and persistent to prevent VM snapshots from
affecting them."
and then it is mentioned again as a specifically unsupported configuration (using VMware snapshots).
The command to recover your particular situation is in the RecoverQuorum.CMD.txt sample script off the LeftHand website. If you have a customer login you can find it in the SAN/iQ 7 sample scripts zip file. Just search for "sample scripts".

| It seems that we do not have support on the VSA appliances. Is there any way to get the script to recover the quorum? Thanks

I just sent it as a PM.
The recovery quorum command is a good tool but it should be wielded with caution.
If you don't have support input or really know what you are doing you should not play with it.
